Levothyroxine

Levothyroxine is a hormone replacement for the hormone naturally produced in the body by thyroid gland. It is also known by the name Thyroxine. Thyroid Hormones play a very important part in our body as they help in regulating the metabolism rate in the body. Without enough thyroid hormones in the body, it cannot function properly and can lead to severe issues such as weight gain, hair loss, thick skin, poor growth.
Synonyms: Synthroid, Thyroxine

Thyroid hormones also regulate warmth of human body. Therefore, people suffering from thyroid feel sensitive to cold.

The thyroid gland produces thyroxine and tri-iodothyronine. Thyroxine converts to tri-iodothyronine in other parts of the body. When the thyroid gland stops producing thyroxine, it creates deficiency of tri-iodothyronine in the body. This leads to the above described problems.
