Beta blockers are documented to relax heart muscle and constrict the smooth muscle, and have shown additive effects when taken with other drugs to decrease blood pressure, or decrease heart conductivity or contractility. Significant reactions occur with Verapamil, Epinephrine and beta 2 adrenergic receptor agonists such as Formoterol, Slmeterol, Salbutamol, Levosalbutamol, etc. as wellas non-steroidal anti-inflamatory medication, rifampicin, lidocaine, simetidine and clonidine. Co-administration with Fluvoxamine slows metabolism of Propranolol hydrochloride which end up as high levels in the blood. While you can buy Propranolol hydrochloride or its generic equivalent in UK stores without prescription, it is still best to consult with your physician to check if any medication you are taking has the potential to cause problems when taking Propranolol.
